Maintaining their undefeated season, Iowa City West advanced to 16-0 following a big 76-56 victory over Xavier on February 3.
The two teams started off even. Iowa City finished the first quarter with a 3-point advantage and entered the half leading 32-30.
In a very different second half, the Trojans stormed out of the gates in the third quarter, outscoring Xavier 23-10. Continuing their excellent scoring, Iowa City closed the game out with a 21-point quarter.
Sophomore point guard Connor McCaffery led all scorers with 18 points to accompany his seven rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Devontae Lane and senior forward David Dileo both added on 16 points.
Lane was also crucial to the defense, recording six rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. The guard’s efforts on both side of the ball made him the Player of the Game.
With an impressive 16-0 record, the Trojans currently sit in 27th in the DigitalSports National Basketball Rankings and 1st in Iowa.
Iowa City West next faces off against Jefferson on February 6 in an attempt to keep its undefeated season alive.
